What is available for 7th and 8th grade students?
Mid Level Academic Bowl
Mid Level Academic Bowl is a playoff series for students in 7th and/or 8th grade. Once the team has been enrolled it will be assigned to a regional group. All schools play district and regional with the top teams advancing to Area. District and Regional tournaments will be held before Semester break. The top teams advance to Area, held second semester before the end of the first week of February. The top Area teams advance to the Challenge of the Champions held on the first Saturday after Presidents Day in February.
Fine Arts Tournament
The OAAC will host a Middle School Fine Arts Tournament on September 27. There will be visual and auditory questions.
Oklahoma Regional Science Bowl
The OAAC is proud to sponsor regional qualifying tournaments for both middle and high school students for the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl. The Middle School Science Bowl will be held on February 14, 2015
The winning team from each regional competition is invited to participate in the National competition. The teams representing each regional, both middle and high school, will be eligible to compete in the 2015 National finals, held April 30 – May 4, 2015, at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Qualifying teams received an all-expense paid trip to compete for the national title. In addition to the academic competition, students are given the opportunity to attend presentations by well-known scientists on current topics in math and the sciences.
7th & 8th grade students are included in the mid level division for Online Tournaments. An Online Tournament is a team event. There is no limit to the size of the team. Team membership may change from one subject area to the next. There are 4 grade levels of competition. Primary - 3rd and 4th grade. Elementary - 5th and 6th grade. Mid Level - 7th and 8th grade. High School - 9th - 12th grade. Each grade level has 5 subject area tournaments; humanities and fine arts, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
TOC - The Tournament of Champions is the state written test championship for students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Students must qualify to attend the Tournament of Champions by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in mathematics, science, social studies, humanities and fine arts, current events or language arts at a qualifying event.
TOC Scholar - The TOC Scholar Cup is an award given to the top individual in the TOC Scholar competition. To be eligible to test as a TOC Scholar a student must qualify for the TOC in 4 different subject areas. The student then takes all 6 tests. The student named 6th, 7th or 8th grade TOC Scholar will be the student with the highest point total from all six TOC tests.
TOCQ - Tournament of Champions Qualifying event. There are two types of qualifying events. OAAC TOCQ is an online event sponsored by the OAAC. Other TOCQ are events hosted by individual school districts.
