What is available for 9th and 10th grade students?
Froshmore Academic Bowl
Froshmore Academic Bowl is a series of four tournaments and a championship for students in 9th and/or 10th grade. Once the team has been enrolled it will be assigned to a regional group. Froshmore tournaments are subject focused with four subject area tournaments, mathematics, science, social studies and humanities and fine arts. For each subject area tournament, half of the questions are from the focus subject. The other questions are from the 3 remaining subject areas, pop culture and current events. All schools play all four subject area tournaments. A team winning any one of the subject area tournaments is invited to the Froshmore Championship which is March 28, 2015.
Fine Arts Tournament
The OAAC will host a high school Fine Arts Tournament on September 27. There will be visual and auditory questions.
Oklahoma Regional Science Bow
The OAAC is proud to sponsor regional qualifying tournaments for both middle and high school students for the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl.
The winning team from each regional competition is invited to participate in the National competition. The teams representing each regional, both middle and high school, will be eligible to compete in the 2014 National finals, held April 30 - May 4, 2015, at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Qualifying teams received an all-expense paid trip to compete for the national title. In addition to the academic competition, students are given the opportunity to attend presentations by well-known scientists on current topics in math and the sciences. 11th & 12th grade students are included in the high school division for Online Tournaments. An Online Tournament is a team event. There is no limit to the size of the team. Team membership may change from one subject area to the next. There are 4 grade levels of competition. Primary - 3rd and 4th grade. Elementary - 5th and 6th grade. Mid Level - 7th and 8th grade. High School - 9th - 12th grade. Each grade level has 5 subject area tournaments; humanities and fine arts, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
HSTOC - The High School Tournament of Champions is the state written test championship for students in 9th - 12th grade. Students must qualify to attend the Tournament of Champions by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd at a regional college or university curriculum or scholastic tournament.
HSTOCQ - A new High School Tournament of Champions Qualifying event. OAAC HSTOCQ is an online event sponsored by the OAAC. Check back for details about dates and subjects being offered.
Team Oklahoma - Team Oklahoma is a six member all-star team that will attend the National Tournament of Academic Excellence (NTAE) in Orlando (DisneyWorld) on June 13-17, 2015. Tryouts for Team Oklahoma begin in October with final selection being held on December 6. Selected team members will practice once a month beginning in January.
