1.)Select the programs in which you wish to participate. Consider the following
a. How many students do you want to include? You do not have the same students in every activity.
Are your students outgoing or shy? Shy students do not do well at academic bowl, but may excel in the online tournaments or individual testing.
Are they involved in a multitude of other activities? If so, it may be hard to schedule academic bowl tournaments around their schedules.
Do they test well? No? Then they may love academic bowl.
Do they like research? Oklahoma Road Rally is a great project.
Do they need challenged? Scholars Club will let them see how they compare to other gifted students in the same grade. Scholars Club is self paced and student driven. A student that does not work without supervision will not benefit from Scholars Club

b. How much time do you have? That's a bad question! I don't know of a single soul that has extra time on their hands. How much time can you com- mit to academic competitions??
Academic Bowl Competitions will take 3-4 days either after school or Saturdays. The amount of practice time will depend on your school and schedule.
Online competitions are divided so each section can be completed during an hour class session. There are 5 different tests.
Road Rally research can be done as a class project or individually on their own. One online tournament either during class or after school.
The Tournament of Champions will require at least one qualifying tournament either after school or on a Saturday and, if your students qualify, the TOC on April 19.
