Upper Elementary Academic Bowl

Upper Elementary Academic Bowl is for students in the 5th and 6th grade. The team may be comprised of all 5th grade students or all 6th grade students or a combination of both. Younger students may play up. Post 6th grade students may not play on a UEL team. Schools may enter multiple teams. A separate entry fee is required for each team. UEL Teams are assigned to area groups after the enrollment period has ended.

Playoff Structure and Competition Dates

The Playoff Structure for both Upper Elementary and Mid Level has been changed for two reasons a.) to give teams that did not do well at District a chance to regroup and b.) to keep the space needed to conduct any of the tournaments down to three rooms. Only the Area tournament will require more than 5 rounds. In order to help explain the way the system will work we have developed some sample brackets and scenarios.

Here is a link to view the sample scenario.

Competition Dates:

Below are the pre-set dates for the 2016-17 season. If your group decides a date will not work for you, your group may change the date. The new date must be a unanimous agreement. If a unanimous decision cannot be made about changing the date, it will revert to the set date.

District - December 5 or 6

Regional - January 16 or 19

Firebird - February 6 or 9

Area Championships- February 18

Phoenix - February 28

The pre-set dates may be changed if the decision is unanimous.
